Why would AEG live sell the rehearsal footage to Sony for $60 million?

This does not make any sense at all.  With 30 million people watching the memorial you could expect at least half of those to buy a DVD of the rehearsal footage. So that would be, at $20 per DVD, a possible $300,000,000 to be made from the sales of the DVD; not including selling the rights afterwards to televise the the DVD.

The production cost of each DVD is approximately 30 cents – according to someone who works in the DVD production industry. So the cost of producing the DVD is approximately $4,500,000.

This leaves an estimated $295,500,000 from DVD sales alone.  Why is AEG basically giving away $295,440,000?  They have proven in their actions so far that all they care about is money.

Could it be that AEG are trying to distance themselves from the controversy that they helped to create? Or could it be that Sony HAD to have the footage because it is part of some comeback event?

Yeah , he protested aganist Sony in 01'- 02' – that me wonder – could he pick a Another Company for his movie ? or decided to stick with what he knows?

That is a very great point! Awesome actually, because you are so right!  Perhaps that is his way of screwing Sony over after they pretty much screwed him for years.
