It was also in 1992 that Jackson took his controversial trip to Africa, visiting several countries, including Gabon and Egypt. During his first stop to Gabon, more than 100,000 villagers in a “spiritual bedlam,” some carrying a sign reading, “Welcome Home Michael,” greeted Jackson. While in Gabon, Jackson received the West African nations Medal of Honor from President Omar Bongo, the official host of Jackson's “Come Back To Eden” tour.  Jackson is the only entertainer to have received this award, which until then, had only been presented to heads of state and high-ranking diplomats and dignitaries, including Nelson Mandela.  While visiting Krindjabo, Ivory Coast, Jackson was crowned “King Sani” by tribal chief, Amon N' Djaolk, during a ceremony, for which villagers prayed and asked God for protection over Jackson– something Jackson undoubtedly needed.
