You may also want to watch this procedure from youtube Caution – this maybe a little bit graphic, but it would answer the questions about how does this procedure is done)

Q&A :
http://www.revisionrhinoplasty…..anced.html
Question: If you need to take ear cartilage, how will that affect my ear? Answer: The good news is that if you need ear cartilage for your revision rhinoplasty, taking that cartilage should not alter your ear's shape or function.
The septum is usually our first choice for grafting material. However, if you have already had a septoplasty or septorhinoplasty, then this source of grafting material may have already been used, in which case we turn to your ear.
The incision is usually placed behind your ear where it cannot be seen. Sometimes, though, for instance if you wear a hearing aid (the incision behind the ear can be irritated by your hearing aid during the healing process), we prefer to make the incision on the front side of your ear in a location where it is well-camouflaged and difficult to see.
The cartilage taken from your ear works well in rebuilding your nose. The good news is — when performed properly, removing this cartilage should not change the shape of your ear! Occasionally, we see a patient who has had both ear cartilages used already, and they still need revision rhinoplasty. In these cases, we are sometimes able to find that there is still enough of the patient's own cartilage in the ear and septum, but we also consider the use of either the patient's or irradiated rib from a tissue bank.

after all the other comments i'm afraid to watch the video, I'm squamish. Are you saying MJ shouldn't have a mangled ear?

Yup, the article says - “The good news is that if you need ear cartilage for your revision rhinoplasty, taking that cartilage should not alter your ear's shape or function.”
“The incision is usually placed behind your ear where it cannot be seen”
so the picture of MJ coming out of a clinic in Beverly Hills clinic with “mangled ears” is not complying with this article. — The incision is behind the ears and not the “ear lobe” as seen in this picture :

And I think MJ would not let his ear lobe or cartiliage be removed if he can buy someone else's—make sense??

I AGREE MJ2040-
something else has been bugging me too.
The pics of Mj's hands looking..well…hate to say- but not kept.
I have always loved Mj's hands and was always observant of them
I really can't see MJ letting himself go- you are right.
Just a disclaimer- If they are his ears and hands- I love them anyway.

This is not MJ. The eyebrow you can see isn't his. Their own ones are thinner. Isn't it so?
@mj-2040: you can't use another one's cartilage (bought or not). Your own body could refuse it as a strange thing…

He hated to look at himself and tried to avoid mirrors he said during an interview (I think the one with Oprah).. so he probably disliked more than just his nose and had work done on other body parts too.
